Incentivize Employee Engagement by Providing Meaningful Work

Employees want to feel their work has meaning and impact. Establish meaningful ways to give feedback, create events that bring your team together, create shared purpose and values and share tangible and intangible rewards. If you do not currently have an employee recognition program in place, implementing one could be the way to improve engagement and retention for your team.

Extend your mission to your team
Employee engagement doesn’t have to be all about taking a company trip to the beach or even a fancy company picnic. In fact, having fun is a wonderful way to foster team spirit, improve your productivity and foster goodwill, but when done right, this can actually help build your company culture and bring more inclusiveness to your organization.

Having fun at work is one thing, but having fun at work that is rooted in a purpose is another. Tapping into the powerful emotions that come from connecting with a higher purpose that aligns with your team’s aspirations will help create a workplace culture that is more inclusive and dynamic, and much more likely to inspire employee engagement. To accomplish this, develop a team mission statement that is relevant to your employees’ goals and missions. Then find ways to give your team access to this mission through on-site teams and social groups that are created to make them more connected to their co-workers, your company and the greater community. When a team feels connected, employees have a stronger sense of purpose and feel more inspired to help drive company goals.

From a company-wide perspective, what are the factors that make employees want to continue to stay at your organization? Developing a comprehensive employee engagement strategy is an imperative for any organization, but to truly realize the benefits, you must start from the top, building trust, building authentic relationships and letting employees know you care about them as individuals, as well as their success and well-being as employees.
